Playbook: law firm intake

Book consultations from new matters without giving legal advice or assessing a case by text.

Settings to use

Open Settings, Agent tab. Set Industry to Custom and Personality to Professional: polite and efficient, no filler. Legal intake is a trust purchase, and plain and polite reads as credible.

None of the built-in industries is a law firm. With Custom, the setter treats your questions and playbook as the source of truth, and on anything they do not cover it says it will check with the team instead of guessing.

Add one line to System prompt override, which is added to the setter's instructions for your workspace: Never give legal advice or say whether they have a case. An attorney does that on the consultation.

Qualification questions

Paste these into Qualification questions, one per line. The setter asks one of these per conversation, the one it needs to book, then offers two times. A money question always comes last.

  • What kind of matter is this: injury, family, business, or something else?
  • When did this happen, or is it ongoing?
  • Have you spoken with another attorney about this?
  • Is there a deadline or court date coming up?

Objection playbook

Paste these into Objection playbook and replace anything in square brackets. On a real objection the setter first asks one short question to find the actual reason, once per conversation, then answers from your entry in one sentence and offers two times again.

  • Do I have a case: Can't say by text. That's exactly what the consultation covers.
  • Cost or fees: [Your fee structure, e.g. consultation terms, contingency, or hourly] gets discussed on the call with the attorney.
  • Nervous or unsure: The consultation is a conversation, no obligation. You decide after.
  • Already have an attorney: If that changes, this number still works.
  • How long will this take: Timelines depend on the details, which the attorney covers on the call.

A sample thread

What a booked thread looks like with these settings, assuming your playbook says the firm handles workers' comp. Each setter line goes out as its own text.

  • Lead: hi i got hurt at work last month, do you handle workers comp
  • Setter: We handle workers comp matters
  • Setter: When did this happen, or is it ongoing?
  • Lead: about 3 weeks ago, still dealing with it
  • Setter: Tue 10am or Thu 2pm?
  • Lead: do i even have a case
  • Setter: Can't say by text, that's exactly what the consultation covers
  • Setter: Tue 10am or Thu 2pm?
  • Lead: thu
  • Setter: Thu 2pm, locked in
  • Setter: Who do I put it under?
  • Lead: Marcus
  • Setter: Thanks Marcus. What's a good email to shoot the invite to?
  • Lead: marcus@example.com
  • Setter: I'll send the invite there. See you Thu

What to leave out

Three things to keep out of your questions and playbook.

  • Legal advice or case assessment. The setter never says whether you have a case; an attorney does that on the consultation.
  • Conflict checks. Those happen internally before the firm agrees to represent anyone, never by text.
  • Case specifics beyond what you need to route the matter. Save details for the consultation.

Questions people ask

Will the setter tell me if I have a case?
No. It never gives legal advice or assesses a case. With the System prompt override line added, it says an attorney covers that on the consultation.
Which Industry should a law firm pick?
Custom. No built-in industry is a law firm. With Custom, your questions and playbook are the source of truth, and the setter checks with your team on anything they do not cover.
