Playbook: auto repair and detailing

Turn 'what's wrong with my car' messages into booked visits, with diagnosis and pricing left for the shop.

Settings to use

Open Settings, Agent tab. Set Industry to Service and Personality to Direct: short and plain, and it gets to the question. Auto and detailing leads want a straight answer fast, and short, plain texts keep the thread moving.

Service is the industry for auto repair and detailing shops, home services companies and gyms. With it set, the setter already knows:

  • Leads want to know what it costs, how soon they can come in, and whether you are near them.
  • It asks one question, what they want done or how soon, then books.
  • It quotes only the prices and area you give it. With no price, it names what the price depends on and says the visit is where it gets set.

Qualification questions

Paste these into Qualification questions, one per line. The setter asks one of these per conversation, the one it needs to book, then offers two times. A money question always comes last.

  • What's the issue, or is this routine maintenance?
  • What's the year, make and model?
  • Have you been here before, or is this your first time?
  • How soon do you need it in?

Objection playbook

Paste these into Objection playbook and replace anything in square brackets. On a real objection the setter first asks one short question to find the actual reason, once per conversation, then answers from your entry in one sentence and offers two times again.

  • Price: [Service] runs [your range] depending on [what changes it]. Exact cost gets set once we look at it.
  • What's wrong with it: Can't diagnose by text. Bring it in and we'll take a look.
  • Just want a price: The range is [your range]. Exact cost depends on what we find.
  • Loaner or ride: [Your loaner or shuttle policy, or: Ask when you drop it off].
  • How long will it take: Depends on parts and what we find once it's in.

A sample thread

What a booked thread looks like with these settings. Each setter line goes out as its own text.

  • Lead: check engine light just came on, can you look at it
  • Setter: We can take a look
  • Setter: What's the year, make and model?
  • Lead: 2018 civic
  • Setter: Wed 8am or Fri 10am?
  • Lead: how much to diagnose it
  • Setter: Depends on the car and what the scan shows, won't throw a random number by text
  • Setter: Wed 8am or Fri 10am?
  • Lead: wed
  • Setter: Wed 8am, locked in
  • Setter: Who do I put it under?
  • Lead: Tony
  • Setter: Thanks Tony. What's a good email to shoot the invite to?
  • Lead: tony@example.com
  • Setter: I'll send the invite there. See you Wed

What to leave out

Three things to keep out of your questions and playbook.

  • Diagnoses. The setter never guesses what's wrong; that's what the visit is for.
  • Prices you have not written down. It quotes only what your playbook says.
  • Timeline promises. It never guarantees a completion time before the vehicle is seen.

Questions people ask

Will the setter tell me what's wrong with my car?
No. It never diagnoses over text. It books the visit so the shop can look at it.
Which Industry should an auto repair or detailing shop pick?
Service. It is written for local service businesses such as auto shops, home services companies and gyms: what it costs, how soon, and whether you are nearby.
